 Diesel particulate filters (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) require routine cleaning to remove ash that builds up over hours of service. Most vehicles using a DPF system will have an on-board filter service monitor to indicate the filter’s condition and guide your filter cleaning schedule.
As soot and other debris are removed by oxidation, a small amount of inert debris - mainly ash and other debris from lubricating oil, engine wear metals and air-inducted dust) will remain in the filter substrate.
To ensure that the optimum level of performance is maintained, this ash must be removed on an as needed basis to maintain proper vehicle operation and fuel economy.
